chile nogada

Main course: the Chile Nogada

Went to a 'puerta cerrada' dinner last night. 'Puerta cerradas' (closed doors) are restaurants in private homes that only opens on certain nights - with set menus. We tried Casa Diego Felix, who cooks vegetarian and fish dinners only.

Home alone

An & Gerrie have left us now, and so have Luc and Ade, Marit and Joris, and we are on our own in Buenos Aires town. Then what to do with our time?

River Queens

Spent the day with Miss Michiels in the brown river delta of Tigre, the Porteños' favourite weekend river resort. River taxi'ing down the muddy river, grilled river fish for lunch with half a bottle of Malbec and for the next couple of hours we were easy game for the river mosquitoes, sleeping in our river beds.

Hanging out in Buenos Aires

Going out in Buenos Aires is pretty nice. Beautiful über-designed bars, easy-going dance floors and an all-round relaxed vibe. The drinks are hairy to say the least. A popular bar concept here is 4 parts alcohol with 1 part fizzy water.

Gerrie likes that. With an egg on top. But we all like Le Bar.
And here's the movie about Going out in Buenos Aires

Driving across town for shopping, lemon pies and fine dining we like too: Driving through Buenos Aires (video).

What's the time now?

BA seems to belong to timezones as per convenience. It used to be 21.20 at this time, here. But I think it's really 22.20 now. That's after having checked a number of clock websites where the dominant Buenos Aires time now has changed to 22.20 - except with Yahoo or Google, though.

However, Buenos Aires was also planning to change back from daylight saving time next weekend. I'm not sure what time it will be then.

(Buenos Aires Herald, the local (English language) newspaper says it's 19.50. Now.)

But then again, I don't really need to know the time. So, whatever.

San Telmo Sunday

Sunday - all day breakfast on the roof with chess and sun bathing.
We catch the baker around the corner before his 4 hours siesta, juice the oranges and head for the roof terrace for the rest of the day:
Wake and Bake Sunday (video).

Rainy Buenos Aires

It's raining in BA. It's warm and humid. Porteños (Buenos Aires people) seem to start any conversation with 'Que calor...' and a sigh. 'Hot innit?'

Had to start a blog on a rainy day. Coming from London's chilly January greyness it's been too nice'n hot a change to do not just sit, lie, wander around and enjoy it. So we have.
